I am interested in creating a website with a free provider. Something that is easy to operate but gives options for a more in depth design. Ive taken some courses to design and so i am looking to put a site together for friends and such to see, and possibly to use as an online portfolio.

googlepages.com has a good site builder. If you’re looking to make a website as a portfolio, I would suggest buying a domain name…it’ll make it look more professional.

Use pages.google.com to practice.

When you’re ready for your own site, use 1&1.
$4/month gives you a domain and full hosting.
